Australian Rare Earths Confirms Koppamurra Economics And Maiden Ore Reserve with PFS
A recent Small Caps article highlights the strong economics delivered by Australian Rare Earths' (ASX:AR3) Pre-Feasibility Study for the Koppamurra rare earths project in South Australia, confirming a low-capital development case with standout forecast returns.
The PFS returned a post-tax NPV of A$858m, IRR of 99%, and payback period of 0.9 years, underpinned by a maiden probable ore reserve of 26Mt at 920ppm TREO and initial capex of just A$178m.
Koppamurra's ionic clay mineralisation supports free-dig open-pit mining and heap leach processing — a simple, low-cost flowsheet that avoids drilling, blasting, and hard rock crushing. The project's product mix, including neodymium-praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium, is directly exposed to constrained Western supply chains and Chinese export controls.
Next steps include DFS initiation, mining lease submission, and advancing offtake and funding discussions.
